Following Eyes DIY

Today's Disney DIY is one from the creepy old crypts of the Haunted Mansion. When you go to the Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion there are some portraits who seem to watch your every move. which can be mimicked with a simple effect....

First what I did was design a picture whose facial features when printed full size their eyes are slightly smaller than ping pong balls. Here is a test version to make sure it works before I print it full size.

Large Print I had made for about $6 and mounted on foam core board..

Next you get one ping pong ball and using an X-acto knife you cut it in half along the seam and paint the inside to look like eyes... Then after you have cut out the eyes on the artwork you tape or glue the eyes to the back of the board.
For a fun effect I even cut out some eyes of the wallpaper so they look at you too...
 The effect in action!
 Still looking at you!
After the back is assembled I made a thin card board box and mounted it to the back of the frame and added a Christmas light in the back to back light the eyes giving it the creepy glow like the ones in the Haunted Mansion.
After it was made I realized the foam core board was not dense enough to block out all the light so you can add tin foil over the areas where unwanted light is getting through and you now have a great picture to perturb your guests.

The ping pong balls are not necessary. Print your eyes on card stock and mount them in back on a cardboard frame. Same effect and less bother. Been making these pictures for several years.
